Spanish Intermediate Grammar: Present of Subjunctive (B1)

The use of the subjunctive usually appears to be quite difficult for the speakers of English. The reason for this is that the subjunctive is seldom used in English, where as it is widely used in Spanish. However, the use of the subjunctive is most logical once when understands the meaning of the word subjunctive as with the word indicative. This course is designed to consolidate the use of the present of subjunctive. Students will develop skills to use the mode subjunctive as contrasted with mode indicative, in conversation, reading, listening and writing.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • Practicing the uses the Present of Subjunctive through a variety of activities, role plays, conversation and exercises aimed to improve all the language skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking).
  • Expressing wishes or preferences: Tengo ganas de que termine la pandemia.
  • Expressing hope, happiness or regret: Espero que podáis venir a mi fiesta.
  • Impersonal expressions: Es necesario que se cuide el medioambiente.
  • Expressing orders, request or advise: Te aconsejo que comas más verdura.
  • Expressing doubt or uncertainty – contrast between Indicative and subjunctive
  • Certain Conjuntions - a pesar de que, después de que...
  • We used with - Cuando – if the future is implied - Ojalá - Acaso, quizás, tal vez..aunque

PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Develop skills of comprehension between Subjunctive and Indicative Mode.
  2. Use grammatical structures of Subjunctive to expand their grammar and vocabulary at a more advanced level.
  3. Improve their oral and written confidence by using Subjunctive
  4. Consolidate grammar concepts with the use of expressions of feeling, doubt or uncertainty, expressing wishes or preferences, hope, happiness or regret.
