Art and Life of Frida Kahlo y Diego Rivera

Explore the art of Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera: their stories, ideas, relationship, and view of the world.

This class will be delivered face-to-face at WEA Sydney. Enrolling students need to ensure they have read the current COVID-19 Safety Guidance that WEA Sydney has put in place before enrolling.

  • Brief introduction to the life of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, two of the most iconic Mexican artists
  • A virtual tour around Frida’s “Casa Azul” – The deep interrelation between Frida, her work, and her art
  • Analysis and class debate around one of Frida’s famous paintings
  • A virtual tour around Diego Rivera’s Museo “Casa Estudio” and “Anahuacalli” – his art in time
  • Their love, their relationship, and work together


By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Gain a better understanding of the personality and perspectives of both Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera through their art.
  2. Expand both your language skills and your knowledge of Spanish speaking artists and culture in general, and Mexican art and history in particular.
  3. Picture the life of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, and explore their art, their relationships, and their ideas.
  4. Spark your curiosity for further individual research regarding these and many other renowned artists in the Spanish speaking world.


If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
