The Superb English Landscapes of John Constable

The Hay Wain (1821) and Salisbury Cathedral from the Bishop’s Grounds (c.1825) are two much-loved art works by the English Romantic painter, John Constable. This talk will draw on recent exhibitions of John Constable & his contemporaries on display in The Netherlands which explored his painting, his life, and the works he copied and admired of the 17th century Dutch masters. We will also explore the love story of John and his wife Maria, and their seven- year wait to marry, and the paintings he did of Maria and his children who he adored.
