Born in obscurity, Auguste Rodin spent years labouring as an ornamental sculptor before success and scandal set him on the road to international fame. By the time of his death, on November 17th 1917 he was likened to Michelangelo, having an enormous influence on sculptors of his day. He is today recognised as the father of modern sculpture. This session will look at the most famous works, as well as the more private and intimate works and drawings, and elaborate on his conceptual approach of making “assemblage”.
