Do not use cartridge paper if you plan on using water as the paper will buckle and it is extremely difficult to move the colour around.

  • Cheap watercolour pads can work well, but the paper on some will peel when wet.
  • Use sketchbooks with 300gsm cold pressed watercolour paper
  • A4 or A5 size watercolour paper, 300gsm cold pressed. Should be smooth and not too textured
  • A5 sheets of paper, or any size you prefer, can be bound to make your own sketchbook and cover. Methods discussed in workshop.
