Available Classes

This course is a continuation from Portuguese Advanced 3 and is for any student wishing to learn the language for business, travel or everyday use with approximately 300 hours of Portuguese required. Students will develop skills to use in conversation, reading, listening and writing. This course aims to build higher level comprehension and communication skills in advanced Portuguese and a review of cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of higher level language principles.

  • Describing and discussing writers and public figures in the fields of history, literature, music and the arts
  • Practising forms of speech in the Portuguese language
  • Learning about Lusofonia through comprehension, oral and written activies
  • Learning about Portuguese Idiomatic Expressions
  • Understanding Portuguese Gastronomy and food, through the work of well-known writer and  oral and written activities
  • Practising advanced language skills through group work - oral and written
  • The Future Subjunctive
  • Semantics and the meaning of expressions
  • The diminutives in the Portuguese language
  • Conjunctions and the subjunctive
  • The Subjunctive Compound tenses
  • Applied definite and indefinite articles
  • The Present Participle

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Communicate in fluent Portuguese.
  2. Use advanced Portuguese skills in conversation in both social and business settings.
  3. Exhibit the skills, vocabulary and study attitude required for continued study of Portuguese.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
