Paul Embery: Despised - Why the Modern Left Loathes the Working Class
Paul Embery's book of 2020, Despised: Why the Modern Left Loathes the Working Class, claims that the British Labour Party has become radically out of step with the culture and values of working-class Britain. Drawing on his background as a firefighter and trade unionist from Dagenham in East London, Embery argues that the Left political establishment has swallowed a poisonous brew of economic and social liberalism, and has come to despise traditional working-class values of patriotism, family, and faith. He maintains that the Left can only revive its political fortunes by combining left-leaning economic policies with more conservative cultural values.
