Sixty Years On: The Bay of Pigs Invasion

April 2021 marks the 60th anniversary of the Bay of Pigs invasion, a clandestine CIA operation to overthrow the Castro regime in Cuba. Its failure dented American prestige and changed the nature of the relationship between Cuba and the United States forever. Learn what happened, what lessons were learnt, and not learnt, and what impact this event still has for these two near neighbours who face each other across the 90 miles of the Florida Strait.

This course will be delivered both face-to-face at WEA Sydney and online via the online platform Zoom simultaneously. Enrolling students need to ensure they have an email, a reliable internet connection, microphone/speakers and access to a tablet, smartphone or computer if they are attending via Zoom or have read the current COVID-19 Safety Guidance that WEA Sydney has put in place before enrolling into the face-to-face class.
