Past Climate Changes and the Lessons They Teach

Our climate is changing, with human influences the main, but not the only driver. We also know that climate has changed in the past, before any significant human involvement. The best example is the Ice Age cycle, which has dominated our planet for the past 2 million years. Can we explain this phenomenon, including the important fact that changes in carbon dioxide lagged the changes in temperature; the opposite of today’s changes. How well do we understand the processes involved, and what are the lessons for today? We can’t hope to predict the future if we don’t understand the past.
