The Chernobyl Disaster: 35 Years On

26 April 2021 was the thirty-fifth anniversary of the catastrophic accident at the V.I. Lenin Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. It is still considered to be the world's worst nuclear accident. It destroyed the nuclear power industry's claims to be modern, clean and safe. Mikhail Gorbachev later credited the incident with initiating the fall of the Soviet Union. Find out how the accident happened and what lessons, if any, the world has learnt from Chernobyl.
