Pluckrose and Lindsay: How Activist Scholarship Made Everything about Race, Gender, and Identity

Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsay’s book of 2020, Cynical Theories: How Activist Scholarship Made Everything about Race, Gender and Identity – and Why This Harms Everybody, examines the origins of several new and confronting political dogmas, including: knowledge is a social construct; science is a tool of oppression; and language is dangerous. They warn that the proliferation of such anti-Enlightenment beliefs presents a threat to liberal democracy, and seek to demonstrate that the promotion of these ideas by activist scholars often ends up undermining genuine social justice and also harms members of the marginalized communities that they supposedly seek to defend.
