Create a Photobook using iPad Pro

Have you ever thought of using those old photos or a few of the 1000’s of digital images stashed away out and create a Photobook or family album? Well you should!? Here is your chance to learn how to use your creative imagination, combine your beloved photographs and digital images using the iPad Pro and Pencil to make history or tell a story that is physical! Whether you display your book or magazine on a coffee table, in a book shelf, give it away away to family, friends or just tuck it away somewhere it will uniquely yours printed and ready to go out into the world when you give the nod!


It is recommended that students of all competencies have a basic plan for the class and choose a suitable sized paper mock up their design idea. eg. Album or book, size A4/B2, number of pages, gloss or matt paper and hard or soft cover. The draft should also include any hand written text, drawings and allow space for any images you want to use. Scaling the project is important!


This class will be delivered online via the online platform Zoom. Enrolling students need to ensure they have an email, a reliable internet connection, microphone/speakers and access to a separate tablet, smartphone or computer that can be used to join the Zoom meeting in addition to using their iPad Pro during the course.


COURSE OUTLINE
Enrolling students must ensure they have an iPad Pro with iOS 10.5 (or higher), Apple Pencil or equivalent drawing tool, as well as the apps “Procreate”, “Blurb” and “AutoDraw” installed. You can find out a little more information about Blurb by visiting the website: http://au.blurb.com/

  • Creating Your First Book: Now is the time to start uploading some of those dusty digital images into Blurb. The time this takes will vary depending on your iPad model, image size and number, internet connections type and speed. Once the image upload is complete, you will be able to add, remove and shuffle images and text as you need. You can preview your book as it would be printed on the fly as you aesthetic inspiration guides you.
  • Edit images using Autodraw: Masking and defining layer areas that you want to alter by either, cutting out or pasting into is best done in this app. Learn sophisticated selections techniques and how to save and export your page edits between Autodraw and Procreate to get great results.
  • Edit images using Procreate 5: Twisting and warping your content can be awesome too! If you have been in a situation that requires a small tweak but ultimately results in a complete make over? Not now, learn how you can bend, twist image areas to great effect!
  • Cutting and pasting content: Highlight something, copy it and paste it! Learn how you can copy and paste content form a variety of sources into your layers. Its pretty standard but if you want to cut copy and paste within and between layers you will need to define the area by outlining it first then the rest is easy, the trick you will learn is how to be accurate, copy or cut only what you want ie getting rid of unwanted items and people in the image.
  • Putting it all together: Now it’s time save your edited images and upload them to Blurb.


PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Create a Photobook at home using your Ipad Pro + Pencil and 3 Apps.
  2. Upload images, add text and drawing to the online Photobook app Blurb.
  3. Use the iPad pro + pencil + drawing apps Procreate 5 and AutoDraw in combination to edit and resize images.
  4. Cut and paste any content from your images using Procreate 5 and AutoDraw Apps.
  5. Export your save your edited images in multiple formats so that they can be easily uploaded to your Photobook in Blurb or simply emailed, printed and shared with friends and family.
  6. Understand paper types and weights, cover types, and cover materials.
