The Salons of Versailles were the birthplace of the fairy tale, where brilliant women wrote coded satires on achieving power through magical transformations. They drew much of the plots from Straparola and Basile, and they in turn had read classical myths. Moving on, the French fairy tales were disseminated throughout Europe, ready to be collected by folklorists such as the Grimms. Rich with psychological and emotional power, vivid with exotic settings and characters, fairy tales live in our interior and cultural lives agelessly, to be re created repeatedly according to the time, place, and audience.
