Painters of Antiquity - Images from Classical Rome to Hollywood's Gladiator & The Matrix

From early movies set in Ancient Rome, to more recent films such as “Gladiator” and “The Matrix”, Hollywood directors have long been influenced by the art of the French 19th century artist Jean-Leon Gerome (1824-1904). His paintings are meticulous and also include numerous images of the European concepts of The Ottoman life-scenes. His contemporary, Dutchman Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836-1912) who painted mostly in England also depicted many Roman scenes as well as paintings relating to Biblical stories.
