Spain is a highly regionally diverse wine nation. Learn where the best wines come from and experience the intriguing stylistic differences caused by mountain ranges, oceans and the hot, dry centre. Spain is the world’s third largest producer of wine (after Italy and France) and has been cultivating wine grapes for thousands of years. Since joining the European Union in 1986, however, Spanish winemaking has benefitted from an infusion of capital, improved viticulture and the latest technology. The result is that outstanding wines are to be found from all of Spain’s wine regions. With the benefit of tutored tasting, this Course will consider the major grape varieties, including Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mencía, Albariño, Godello and Verdejo. The Course will also traverse the regions in which these varieties are at their most expressive, such as Rioja, Rías Baixas, Ribera del Duero, Navarra, Priorat and La Mancha.

PLANNED LEARNED OUTCOMES
