The ancient art of paper folding came from Japan and China and widespread across the world. Modular geometrical origami are structures following basic regular and stellar polyhedra. Making them is a relaxing practice with fascinating results. Information about regular polyhedra will be provided at the start of the course to facilitate understanding of geometrical forms. In relaxing atmosphere, students will learn folding singular paper module and assemble several modules together into a whole structure. With a bit of practice, a total figure will arise to intellectual and aesthetical pleasure. Printouts of the polyhedral structures and folding techniques will be supplied as well as several printout descriptions for further practice.

  • Basic Platonic and Archimedes solids. Stellar polyhedral.
  • Origami symbols and bases.
  • Practicing folding modular origami.


PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Understand regular and stellar polyhedra.
  2. Know main symbols of origami making descriptions, main tools and bases.
  3. Discover techniques of folding regular origami.
  4. Have made their own modular origami, from simple to complicated ones.
  5. Be provided with more schemes of making geometrical origami.


MATERIALS LIST

  • A set of non-adhesive square (appr. 8cm) coloured notes/memo cards
  • Set of coloured paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue sticks


IMPORTANT: Please arrive to the first class with all the relevant materials. A lack of materials is not just a handicap to you but to the ability to teach. Materials cost is not included in a course fee. In the event of a course being cancelled WEA cannot be held responsible for the purchase of any course materials. We therefore suggest you purchase your materials closer to the time of the course commencing.
