Mikis Theodorakis Delivers Greece

2021 saw 96 year old Greek Composer, Theodorakis pass on. Famous for the score for “Zorba the Greek” he achieved much more through compositions borrowed from poets Pablo Neruda and Brendan Behan to include many film and orchestral scores. Greek Nobel prize winners whose poetry may have otherwise been restricted to a narrow audience were popularised through his music. Gaoled, and tortured he never surrendered his beliefs. Overtly political, he related his oeuvres to the people adding the bouzouki – an instrument banned by Greek dictatorships for its refugee working class roots. The course traces much of Mikis’ life and contributions.
