July 26th marks the 65th anniversary of the Fidel Castro-led uprising against the Batista dictatorship at the Moncada Barracks (Santiago de Cuba, 1953). A charismatic, controversial revolutionary who later led Cuba for nearly 50 years, Castro, and the Cuban Revolution itself, have had a unique impact on global politics and history. To his critics, Castro was a totalitarian despot who denied Cubans basic freedoms and pushed the world to the brink of nuclear war during the Cuban Missile Crisis. To his defenders, he was a revolutionary hero who ensured Cubans had universal access to housing, employment, health care and an enviable education system. Join us to discuss the Cuban Revolution, the 3rd but arguably most influential of the 20th Century Latin American revolutions. This special forum, featuring two distinguished Cuban feminist scholars, will also be a part of https://www.weasydney.com.au/course/MRLA
