Who's Who in the Middle East: The Main Players in the Middle East Conflict

The Middle East conflict is a complex and difficult affair with many players and organisations representing different causes and faiths. The Islamic world is split between its major groups, especially Sunnis and Shi’ites. There are Christian groups, religion-based terrorist groups, secular terrorist groups. There are alliances and enmities. Israel, of course, stands in the middle of all this and the West also has its part to play. Then there is the economic powerhouse that the Middle East is becoming, based on oil and an ever-widening economic base. Who are the players and organisations that make up this conflict?
