Mindfulness, Mindset & Self-care

This workshop is designed to inform people about the emerging fields of mindfulness, mindset, performance and recovery and to explore ways we can integrate into our lives to foster engagement and flourishing. The workshop draws together research and practice from the emerging fields of Sports Science, Mindfulness, Mindset and Attention Restoration Theory in developing the skill sets necessary to support both engagement and wellbeing. Participants are introduced to the science behind drive and performance along with strategies to promote effective ‘oscillation’ between output and recovery throughout life.


  • Mindfulness: A Practical Guide to Finding Peace in a Frantic World Book, Danny Penman and Mark Williams

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Understand the inverted U model of performance and the role of stretch and recovery zones in peak performance.
  2. Understand how the latest mindfulness research links peak performance, brain function, resilience and stress recovery.
  3. Have practical experience of how mindfulness can be used to assist self regulation and stress recovery.
  4. Know the difference between direct and indirect attention and how to foster resilient cognitive focus through attention restoration practices.
  5. Understand connection between mindfulness, thought-action spirals and positive psychology in order to foster positive growth.
  6. Have access to a range of recovery strategies and resources.
  7. Have created his/her unique Personalised Action Plan for self care and growth.
