Leipzig - City of Bach, Bartholdy and Medieval Fur Trade

Medieval Leipzig was a main hub of the European fur trade, as well as a major book publishing and sales centre in later years. The city’s international trade importance was even kept alive during post-WWII socialist rule in East Germany, which ultimately led to the downfall of the GDR in 1989. But Leipzig was also a major cultural centre with famous composers Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy playing a big role, along with a world-renown boys’ choir and orchestra. Only Napoleon would not have had any fond memories of the city…
