Josephus, Turncoat Historian

The works of the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus were more widely read in mediaeval Europe than any book other than the Bible, and still fascinates historians. They are an extraordinary eye-witness to a momentous period in history when the Jewish state was destroyed, and a new religion was born. We will study his life of intrigue and deception, his value as an historian and as an apologist for Jewish beliefs and customs. We shall also read and discuss extracts from his major works.
