This course is for students who have completed Japanese Beginners 1, or an equivalent program. This course is also designed for people working in the local tourist industry who wish to improve their customer service to Japanese tourists. Students will further develop basic skills to use in conversation, reading, listening and writing. This course is recommended for people working in the general travel sector who need to communicate at a low level with Japanese clients or for business people travelling to Japan who need basic cultural skills.

CLASS PLAN
Nine Sessions that aim to build general basic comprehension and communication skills in elementary Japanese.


CONTENT
Conversational Japanese and an introduction to cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of basic language principles.


Topics (as related to textbook)

  • Verbs present form, past form, present negative form and past negative form.
  • Days of the week, months, days of the month, time.
  • Verbs for being (animate and inanimate).
  • Words for positions.
  • Counting things, people…etc.
  • Words for actions.
  • State when, where, what and with whom.


PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Speak clearly and be understood in basic Japanese, in particular to give direction and instructions to Japanese tourists.
  2. Increase the skills, vocabulary and study attitude required for continued study of Japanese.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY
If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
