This is a continuing course for students who wish to pursue their study of Japanese advanced level. This course is designed to enable students who worked through Japanese for Busy People 1, 2, 3, Minna no Nihongo Chuukyuu 1 & 2 and achieved their mastery of intermediate Japanese and progress smoothly into the advanced level. In this course, students will have the opportunity to focus on specific skills, such as extending vocabulary, phrases, expressions in given areas, improving reading and writing skills, and developing a better understanding of specific cultural and social issues. The course includes talking about larger social topics by expressing individual opinions. It is assumed that students have about 640hours of prior learning.

CLASS PLAN
Nine Sessions that aim to build high level comprehension and communication skills in advanced Japanese.


CONTENT
Conversational Japanese and a review of cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of advanced level language principles.


Topics (as related to textbook)

  • Meaning "even supposing that, even if …."
  • Stating a logically-derived conclusion from a fact
  • Meaning "not only…but also…"
  • Meaning "in spite of such-and-such a situation"
  • Expressing the relationship 'as a consequence of doing X, situation Y was understood
  • Expressing that there is no other choice but to do
  • Meaning "none other than N'
  • Indicating that a result commensurate with whatever was done will be obtained
  • Meaning "it is not necessary to do …"


PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Communicates in Japanese, in particular to give assistance and instructions to Japanese tourists.
  2. Exhibit the skills, vocabulary and study attitude required for continued study of Japanese.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY
If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
