Japanese Advanced Conclusion

This is a continuing course for students who wish to pursue their study of Japanese advanced level. This course is designed to enable students who worked through Japanese for Busy People 1, 2, 3 and Minna no Nihongo Chuukyuu 1 and achieved their mastery of intermediate Japanese and progress smoothly into the advanced level. In this course, students will have the opportunity to focus on specific skills, such as extending vocabulary, phrases, expressions in given areas, improving reading and writing skills, and developing a better understanding of specific cultural and social issues. The course includes talking about larger social topics by expressing individual opinions. It is assumed that students have about 620 hours of prior learning.

CLASS PLAN

Nine Sessions that aim to build advanced comprehension and communication skills in Japanese.


CONTENT

Conversational Japanese and a review of cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of higher level language principles.

  • Citing items at either extreme of a group
  • Expressing “doing something to the utmost”
  • Expressing the feeling that it is enough if a certain thing is realized
  • Indicating an action involving responsibility or resolve
  • Meaning “unless something happens”
  • Meaning “It is not possible to do so”

PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Communicate in easily understood Japanese in particular to give assistance, direction and instructions to Japanese tourists or business people.
  2. Increase the skills, vocabulary and study attitude required for continued study of Japanese.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
