Dante - An Overview over La Divina Commedia (B2)

An overview over the life and work of Dante Alighieri with the opportunity to learn and discuss about Dante’s sublime poetic masterpiece, The Divine Comedy, one of the world’s great works of literature. The whole class is conducted in Italian. Advanced level (from B2).


DELIVERY MODE
This class will be delivered online via the online platform Zoom. Classes will consist of a minimum of 1.5 hours virtual class time, together with 30 minutes worth of work to be completed independently. You will be able to contact your tutor by email or phone to ask for guidance and feedback on this work. In addition tutors may set additional homework. This course requires students to have an email, a reliable internet connection, a microphone/speakers and access to a tablet, smartphone or computer. Please note that WEA Sydney is unable to provide any technical support for students' personal equipment.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • The course will provide an overview over the life and work of Dante Alighieri.
  • Students will read and analyse a selection of cantos.


PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Have a better understanding of the social and cultural situation in Italy during the late medieval period;
  2. Attain an overview over Dante and the main topics of Divina Commedia;
  3. Discuss Dante’s role and credit to establishing the national language of Italy.
