The Pleasure of Reading: Italian Lower-Intermediate Revision (A1-A2)

About 85% of learning a new language comes from listening and reading. Consisting of original stories, each book is filled with activities to facilitate understanding and encourage students to revise fundamental grammar points and practise their listening, oral and written skills. The Audio book includes both a recording of the text and additional exercises to test the students' listening skills and pronunciation in a class environment. Some of the stories also include interesting facts relevant to the characters, the setting or the period in the book, and informative dossiers about the culture.

This class will be delivered face-to-face at WEA Sydney. Enrolling students need to ensure they have read the current COVID-19 Safety Guidance that WEA Sydney has put in place before enrolling.

COURSE OUTLINE

This course is set at a Lower-Intermediate level, 120 plus hours of prior learning assumed, or completed up to Units 2 & 3 Nuovo Espresso Book 2.

  • The Italian language in context and in various situations: family, relationships, work, religion, food, and culture in general.
  • Related grammar balanced with communicative elements and comprehension exercises.
  • Use of modern language and systematic work on the 4 language skills with emphasis on listening and reading.
  • Apply methodical review of phrasal structures and vocabulary.

PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Use intermediate conversation skills in social settings.
  2. Increase skills, vocabulary and study methods required for continued learning.
  3. Students will develop reading and listening skills through the texts and full audio recordings of the stories, and discover the culture and history behind each story through the informative dossiers.
