This course is particularly relevant to those who have already completed the Interior Design Basics course. We will study the application of interior colour schemes, colour contrasts, light and tone through simple paint exercises. Your knowledge of Colour and Tone will then be complemented with all other Elements & Principles of Design including such factors as shape, form, texture, size, balance, contrast and repetition. The practical aspect of this course which is significant, will include creating colour palettes, working with tone, displaying your creativity through professional mood boards.


COURSE OUTLINE

  • Class demonstration on mixing paint and creating a shadow palette. Each student will then create their own palettes.
  • Elements & Principles of Design explained
  • Elements & Principles Chart produced by each student
  • Adapting Design techniques to our interior spaces
  • Creating comprehensive moodboards.
  • Class and individual demonstrations and appraisals for working process and end results.


PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Gain more confidence in their ability to create their desired interior space
  2. Understand the effect of colour, light and tonal effects.
  3. Understand the elements & principles of Design.
  4. Start to develop an ‘eye’ for instantly seeing how an interior could be improved.
  5. Feel confident and free of restriction in the use of colour and space.
  6. Present a moodboard and other practical exercises that are easy to understand and clearly depict the intended outcome.


MATERIALS LIST
A special student pack will be supplied to each student with items that can also be used in the future at a discounted rate of $35.00 per pack. If the student prefers to purchase a pack themselves, then a list of required items will be made available ahead of course commencement. Please contact WEA Sydney if you wish to do so, so the tutor can be informed of your decision.


Student should bring:

  • Apron
  • Clean jam jar
  • Scissors
  • Notebook and pen
