Intermediate Calligraphy: A Medieval Script

There are a wide variety of medieval hands and we will be looking at one of the scripts that developed from Gothic's austere forms. A more cursive script from this period which has a flowing quality. The large highly flourished capitals are particularly elaborate and ornamental and contain forms called 'cadels' which are a style developed from the 15th century on. We will study manuscripts of the period to obtain an understanding of the script and comparisons of the various forms will also be made. This will be followed by a practical project. To join this course, you just need to have learnt one script using a chisel-shaped calligraphy nib.
