Hagia Sophia – Church, Mosque, Museum and Now

The Turkish government has passed a formal decree converting the glorious Byzantine-era ex-church Hagia Sophia back in to a mosque, with the first official prayers to take place on Friday July 24. This decision has been greeted with an out pouring of distress, as the monument is an UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as a symbol of the glory of early Christianity. Learn the history of Hagia Sophia and its architecture and art, and discover examples of other buildings that have gone through a similar process of evolution of usage.

This class will be delivered online via the online platform Zoom. Enrolling students need to ensure they have an email, a reliable internet connection, microphone/speakers and access to a tablet, smartphone or computer.
