How Do We Learn a Language?

If you have ever learned a foreign language, you will have noticed that this undertaking is largely different from the way children acquire their mother tongue. Yet, the two processes have a lot of points in common. Knowing their similarities and differences will help language students reflect on their language learning experience and the best methods to approach this challenge, understand its struggles, have realistic expectations and build their confidence. This course presents basic concepts of first and second language acquisition. It is directed to language students who are interested in understanding their own learning experiences, and to language teachers, who can use it as a way to inform their teaching practices.

This class will be delivered online via the online platform Zoom. Enrolling students need to ensure they have an email, a reliable internet connection, microphone/speakers and access to a tablet, smartphone or computer.
