Hans Christian Andersen: The Ugly Duckling

My Life as a Fairytale was the title Andersen gave to his autobiography which is completely accurate if you know that fairy tales are full of threats, contradictions, rejection, disguised truths, suffering, perseverance, wishes, and fears. He dreamt of being the Ugly Duckling who one day would be accepted by the swans as one of them but when the European elite really did honour him, he could not believe it. His immense influence on the genre of fairy tales continues to this day and we can continue to see his personal identity stamped on his stories.

This class will be delivered online via the online platform Zoom. Enrolling students need to ensure they have an email, a reliable internet connection, microphone/speakers and access to a tablet, smartphone or computer.
