As any wordsmith knows, grammar forms the foundation for writing success. This unique course, focused on the twelve sentence templates, reveals how to draft and craft any grammatically correct sentence, whether plain and lucid or thrilling and forceful. On completing this course, students, professionals, and writers of every skill and status will have enhanced their sentential potential, while mastering the art of stringing words together to produce sophisticated sentences – linguistic structures standing the tests of time and taste.

Each student will need a copy of A Time to Draft and a Time to Craft: Twelve Templates to Turn a Timeless Sentence. The retail price for this book is $35. Loan textbooks will be provided for the duration of each class, and students will have to return these copies at the end of class.

COURSE OUTLINE
This course will cover the following topics, occasionally departing from the curriculum to meet a class’s specific needs:

  • Simple sentences – the five standard templates. This section explores subjects, predicates, verbs, nouns, objects, complements, and the nine parts of speech.
  • Multi-clause sentences – four essential templates. This section covers clauses and conjunctions.
  • Phrase-filled sentences – three advanced templates. This section expands on phrases, verbals, and branched sentences.
