This course is for students who need to communicate with some fluency in German. Students will have the opportunity to focus on specific skills, such as extending vocabulary in given areas, improving written language, and developing a better understanding of specific cultural and social issues. It is suitable for students who have completed at least the advanced level B1 or about 280 hours of previous German lessons.

CLASS PLAN
Nine Sessions that aim to build advanced comprehension and communication skills in German.


CONTENT
Conversational German and an introduction to cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of higher level language principles.


Topics (as related to textbook)
Unit 5

  • To spend time: working as a volunteer
  • Useful phrases 'convincing people, understanding opinions and saying one’s own opinion'
  • Types of texts: flyer, notice, newspaper article, biography
  • Pronunciation exercises

Unit 6

  • Architecture
  • The 'Bauhaus'
  • Modern architecture, innovations and visions
  • Architecture and climate change

Grammar (as covered in textbook topics)
Unit 5

  • Conditional/Konjunktiv II
  • Adverbs

Unit 6

  • Subjective use of modal verbs
  • Modal particles and filling words


PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Communicate in fluent German.
  2. Increase the skills, vocabulary and study attitude required for continued study of German.
  3. Have a more detailed understanding of the German society and culture.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY
If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
