Practice Your German Advanced (B1)

This course is for students who have completed all B1 levels of learning with a minimum of recently completed 240 hours of German. The students are at the level of German advanced study with matching proficiency in grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and expression. It is open to anyone wishing to develop their language skills. Students will develop enhanced skills in communication, reading, listening and writing.

This class will be delivered online via the online platform Zoom. Enrolling students need to ensure they have an email, a reliable internet connection, microphone/speakers and access to a tablet, smartphone or computer. Classes will consist of a minimum of 1.5 hours virtual class time, together with 30 minutes worth of work to be completed independently. You will be able to contact your tutor by email or phone to ask for guidance and feedback on this work. In addition tutors may set additional homework.

CLASS PLAN

Nine Sessions that aim to build high level comprehension and communication skills in advanced German.


CONTENT

Conversational German and a review of cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of higher level language principles.

Topics - Chapter 7 (Money)

  • Discussing Online-Shopping
  • Understanding shopping behaviour
  • Creating a game: Who wants to be a millionaire?
  • Giving detailed information about a product
  • Buying something on a flea market and bartering
  • Passive voice in the present and past tense
  • Passive with modal verbs
  • Suffixes of nouns

PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Improve their oral confidence by communicating in German.
  2. Use grammatical structures and comprehension abilities to expand their vocabulary at an more advanced level.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
