This course is for students who need to communicate with fluency in French. Students will have the opportunity to focus on specific skills such as extending vocabulary in given areas, improving written language, and developing a better understanding of specific cultural and social issues. The class is conducted in French and includes individual presentations by the students, as well as group debates and discussions on French current affairs, French songs, poems, movies etc. Students enrolling should have enough proficiency and fluency to follow the class.

CLASS PLAN
Nine sessions that aim to build higher level comprehension and communication skills in Advanced French.


CONTENT
Conversational French and a review of cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of higher level language principles.

  • Cinema and film-makers
  • Film appreciation
  • Practising a leisure activity
  • Talking about leisure activities and related lifestyles
  • Tourism: selection of location, booking and itineraries

Grammar (as covered in textbook topics)

  • Place of adverbs in compound verb tenses
  • Place of adjectives (revision)
  • Personal pronouns after à and de
  • Indirect object pronouns (revision)
  • Indirect pronouns en and y
  • The Gerund
  • En and Y pronouns of place
  • Revisions


PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Communicate in fluent French in a variety of situations.
  2. Use advanced French skills in conversation in both social and business settings.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY
If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
