This course is for students who have completed French Intermediate 1 (A2). You will further develop skills in conversation, reading, listening and writing whilst also learning about French culture.

This course is for students who have completed French Intermediate 1 (A2). You will further develop skills in conversation, reading, listening and writing whilst also learning about French culture. This course is also designed for people working in the local tourist industry who wish to improve their customer service to French tourists and is recommended for people working in the general travel sector who need to communicate with French clients. Most of the class is conducted in French.

CLASS PLAN
Nine sessions that aim to build general basic comprehension and communication skills in lower intermediate French.


CONTENT
Conversational French and an introduction to cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of basic language principles.


Topics (as related to textbook)

  • Looking for a place to buy or rent
  • Understanding and using real estate ads
  • Describing alternative housing styles
  • Looking/advertising for housemates
  • Setting house rules
  • Traditional French houses

Grammar (as covered in textbook topics)

  • Direct and indirect object pronouns
  • Written and oral structures to express rules (using the Imperative mood, and verbs devoir and falloir)
  • General revisions


PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Expand the use of basic French in everyday social and business settings.
  2. Increase the skills, vocabulary and study attitude required for further study of French.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY
If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
