French Advanced Conversation through Literature/Film (B2)

This course is for students who need to communicate with fluency in French. Students will have the opportunity to focus on specific skills such as extending vocabulary in given areas, improving written language, and developing a better understanding of specific cultural and social issues. The class is conducted in French with films and texts presented as support of discussion. Students enrolling should have enough proficiency and fluency to follow the class.

This class will be delivered online via the online platform Zoom. Enrolling students need to ensure they have an email, a reliable internet connection, microphone/speakers and access to a tablet, smartphone or computer. Classes will consist of a minimum of 1.5 hours virtual class time, together with 30 minutes worth of work to be completed independently. You will be able to contact your tutor by email or phone to ask for guidance and feedback on this work. In addition tutors may set additional homework.

CLASS PLAN

Nine sessions that aim to build higher level comprehension and communication skills in Advanced French.

CONTENT

Each week we discuss different aspects of particular French films and Literature.

  • Enjoy discussing films reviews and presenting biographies of your favourite actors.
  • Rediscover (in French) the famous French literature of Balzac, Zola, Stendhal, Colette, Proust and also contemporary French writers, such as Katherine Pancol or Guillaume Musso, Anna Gavalda.
  • Discover more about the histories, significance and times of famous French writers and actors

PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Communicate in fluent French in a variety of situations.
  2. Use advanced French skills in conversation in both social and business settings.
  3. Exhibit the appropriate learning skills required to take the study of French to a higher level.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
