A one day lecture as an introduction to a more extended session on Byzantine and Ottoman Istanbul. It concentrates on the daily life of late Byzantine Constantinopolis by focusing on manners and lifestyle of its people in that era and how the reflection of their culture of living materialised in the design of daily use objects and living spaces. The influence of cultural exchanges between the Byzantine Empire and its surrounding neighbors will also be in focus as a secondary influence on the subject.
