The Way We Learn: Exploring the Concept of Intelligence and How it Impacts Learning

Though formal education tells us the contrary, intelligence is in fact a subjective and relative concept that changes with the tides of time. This means exploring and finding one’s own learning style is crucial to individual educational development. Regardless of what type of intelligence society may be valuing at the time, the one consistent knowledge the learner can have (unfettered by the surrounding opinions of their social environment) is the recognition of their own type of intelligence and in what ways they learn best.

• Applying knowledge of history to explore the idea of intelligence being a social construct
• Analysing the connection between intelligence and learning styles
• Applying knowledge learned about intelligence/learning styles to the learner’s own experiences.
