An introduction to the Danish language and culture for any student wishing to learn the basics of Danish language and become more familiar with Danish culture, traditions and lifestyle. Students will develop some reading a writing skills and will become familiar with the key themes in Danish culture. This course is recommended for people wishing to learn the essentials of the Danish language and culture as well as for those who wish to undertake further Danish courses.

  • Session 1
    • Formal and informal greetings
    • Introducing yourself and others
    • Danish pronunciation and vowels
    • Interrogatives and phrasing questions
    • Familiarising with the Danish phenonemen 'hygge'
  • Session 2
    • Telling and asking about direction
    • Food and recipes
    • Formal and informal communication in contemporary Denmark
    • Thanking and responding to thanking
  • Session 3
    • Most common Danish traditions and everyday routines.
    • Travelling Denmark: how, when and what.
    • Essential phrases for travel and getting around
    • How Danes behave among one another.


PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Speak clearly and be understood in basic Danish in particular to talk about themselves and exchange basic information with others.
  2. Ask basic questions.
  3. Demonstrate the skills, language and attitudes required for further study of Danish.


LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY
If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
