Creative Night Photography

Infinite choices are available to the photographer, and with digital photography you can explore these choices with immediate results, all adjustable in situ. Learn to manipulate camera controls for various effects. Develop techniques such as multiple exposure, camera drag, zoom while exposing etc. on a creative night excursion in the city on day 2. No flash. Designed for students who understand basic manual operation and who have access to a tripod and manual camera with a bulb and/or long shutter speed setting.


  • Face-to-Face


Please bring your SLR digital camera (or equivalent) with manual option and a tripod - remotes and lens hoods are completely optional.

  • Night photography exposure formulas and guides.
  • Camera function orientation e.g. bulb and shutter speeds, apertures, reciprocity, ISO, white balance, picture controls, histograms, focus methods, focal lengths and meter modes.
  • Practical excursions in the City and/or Sydney Harbour area


By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Explore and develop a greater awareness of the creative potential in night photography.
  2. Develop an understanding of night photography exposure.
  3. Identify particular techniques that may assist in interpreting night subjects.
