Chinese (Mandarin) Advanced Conclusion

This courses follows on from Advanced 5 and is suitable for anyone who has completed this, or an equivalent program, and wishes to learn the language for business, travel or everyday use. Students will develop skills to use in conversation, reading, listening and writing.


  • New Practical Chinese Reader (2nd Ed), Beijing Language and Culture University Press, Book 3, covering Lesson 37 to Lesson 38.


Nine sessions that aim to build general advanced comprehension and communication skills in advanced Chinese.


Conversational Chinese and an introduction to cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of advanced language principles.

  • Talking about the climate
  • Making a suggestion
  • Indicating a possibility
  • At a restaurant
  • Expressing a surprise
  • The extended usage of “xiaqu”
  • Interrogative pronouns indicating arbitrary reference
  • Making comparison by using the preposition “bi“
  • The construction of “yue...yue...”


By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Knowledge of restaurant culture.
  2. Going dutch and standing treat.
  3. Sing a Chinese song “A place far a way”.

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
