Chinese (Mandarin) Advanced 4

This courses follows on from Advanced 3 and is suitable for anyone who has completed this, or an equivalent program, and wishes to learn the language for business, travel or everyday use. Students will develop skills to use in conversation, reading, listening and writing.

  • New Practical Chinese Reader (2nd Ed), Beijing Language and Culture University Press, Book 3, covering Lesson 32 to Lesson 34.

CLASS PLAN

Nine sessions that aim to build general intermediate comprehension and communication skills in advanced Chinese.

CONTENT

Conversational Chinese and an introduction to cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of basic language principles.

  • Guessing
  • Give a vague response
  • Explaining
  • Indicating a possibility
  • Expressing one’s concern
  • Making additional remarks
  • Making emphasis
  • Telling stories
  • The structure particle “de de de“
  • “ba" summary
  • Adverb “jiu” and “hai”
  • The complication of nouns, measure words, and numeral measure words
  • The construction of “ji...you...”
  • The subjectless sentence
  • “ze“ and “zhu" as the resultative complements
  • The structure “lian...ye...dou...”

PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Talking about Chinese legend stories.
  2. Talks about protecting environment means protecting ourselves.
  3. Trendy things in these days.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
