This courses follows on from Advanced 1 and is suitable for anyone who has completed this, or an equivalent program, and wishes to learn the language for business, travel or everyday use. Students will develop skills to use in conversation, reading, listening and writing.


TEXT: New Practical Chinese Reader (2nd Ed), Beijing Language and Culture University Press, Book 3, covering Lesson 28 to Lesson 29.


CLASS PLAN
Nine sessions that aim to build general intermediate comprehension and communication skills in advanced Chinese.


CONTENT
Conversational Chinese and an introduction to cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of basic language principles.

  • Asking in retort
  • Worrying
  • Describing something
  • Emphasising an affirmation
  • Expressing modesty

Grammar (as covered in textbook topics)

  • Sentences indication existence or emergence
  • Reduplication of adjective
  • The structure particle "de"
  • The “ba” sentence again
  • Using the verb “you” to express comparisons
  • The rhetorical question
  • Sentences with serial verb phrases


PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Know how to present gifts and receiving gifts
  2. Appreciating some one’s suggestion
  3. Using rhetorical structure to express

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY
If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
