Chinese (Mandarin) Intermediate 3

This courses follows on from Intermediate 2 and is suitable for anyone who has completed this, or an equivalent program, and wishes to learn the language for business, travel or everyday use. Students will develop skills to use in conversation, reading, listening and writing.

  • New Practical Chinese Reader (2nd Ed), Beijing Language and Culture University Press, Book 2, covering Lesson 19 to Lesson 20.

CLASS PLAN

Nine sessions that aim to build general intermediate comprehension and communication skills in advanced Chinese.

CONTENT

Conversational Chinese and an introduction to cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of basic language principles.

  • Expressing a duration of time
  • Talking about hobbies
  • Comparing things
  • Saying goodbye in different ways
  • Asking for reasons
  • Hurrying some body up
  • Festivals greetings
  • The six basic functional complements
  • Sentence with a verbal predicate
  • Using “ geng......yiyang or bu yiyang to make a positive or a negative comparison
  • Resultative complement with “ hao “
  • Question with “ shi bu shi “
  • The structure of “ lai + V/VP
  • The structure of because and therefore

PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to talk about:

  1. How to and what to say about celebrating New Year.
  2. Taking about things which you think they are the same or you do not thing they are the same.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
