Chinese (Mandarin) Intermediate 2

This courses follows on from Intermediate 1 and is suitable for anyone who has completed this, or an equivalent program, and wishes to learn the language for business, travel or everyday use. Students will develop skills to use in conversation, reading, listening and writing.

  • New Practical Chinese Reader (2nd Ed), Beijing Language and Culture University Press, Book 1, covering Lesson 17 to Lesson 18.

CLASS PLAN

Nine sessions that aim to build general intermediate comprehension and communication skills in intermediate Chinese.

CONTENT

Conversational Chinese and an introduction to cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of basic language principles.

  • Uncertainty

  • Taking the bus
  • Changing the bus
  • The “de” phrase
  • Comparison using the preposition “bi“
  • The complement of quantity
  • The resultative complement
  • Sentence of “shi“
  • The preposition “wang” and the pronoun “zanmen”
  • Verb come, go, arrive etc with time measure complement

PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Tell good, better, best.
  2. Admitting that you have misunderstand or misheard.
  3. Take the bus to go anywhere you wish.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
