Creating a New American President

The Presidential Inauguration has been the dramatic centrepiece of the American political system since the Inauguration of America’s first President on 30 April 1789. George Washington was sworn in on the balcony of the hastily remodelled New York City Hall, watched by a crowd of thousands. The Inauguration of Joseph Robinette Biden Jr in Washington DC will be watched by a global audience of billions. We will look at the history of Inauguration and also review the crucial, and unique process called Transition, to understand how America creates a new President.

This course will be delivered both face-to-face at WEA Sydney and online via the online platform Zoom simultaneously. Enrolling students need to ensure they have an email, a reliable internet connection, microphone/speakers and access to a tablet, smartphone or computer if they are attending via Zoom or have read the current COVID-19 Safety Guidance that WEA Sydney has put in place before enrolling into the face-to-face class.
