Beyond Mountains and Clocks - The Elegance & Luxury of Switzerland in the Arts

Switzerland is usually associated with snow-covered Alps and 19th century Tuberculosis cures for the unwell. But beyond this image there exists a culture of artisans and artists. Why did the gold & silversmiths focus on making watches as reaction to the Calvinists in 1541, from which sprung an amazing watch & clock-making tradition. From rich 18th century painter Angelica Kauffman to the 20th century tall & thin sculptures of Alberto Giacometti, the Swiss have a demanding place in the arts.
