Arabic Beginners 2

This course builds on comprehension and communication skills gained in Arabic Beginners 1 and is for any student wishing to learn the language for business, travel or everyday use. Students will develop skills to use in conversation, reading, listening and writing.


DELIVERY MODE
This class will be delivered online via the online platform Zoom. Classes will consist of 1.5 hours virtual class time, together with 30 minutes worth of work to be completed independently. You will be able to contact your tutor by email or phone to ask for guidance and feedback on this work. In addition tutors may set additional homework. This course requires students to have an email, a reliable internet connection, a microphone/speakers and access to a tablet, smartphone or computer. Please note that WEA Sydney is unable to provide any technical support for students' personal equipment. We understand that for many of our students this is a new and novel approach. If you are unsure if it is for you, please note that we will offer you a no questions asked refund up until the end of Week 2.

CLASS PLAN
Nine sessions that aim to build general basic comprehension and communication skills in elementary Arabic.


CONTENT
Conversational Arabic and an introduction to cultural practices and taboos, together with a focus on clear explanations of basic language principles.

  • Clothing
  • Expressions

Grammar

  • Pronunciation of Arabic alphabet
  • Word order – where to place the adjective
  • Common verbs and tense


PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Speak clearly and be understood in basic Arabic- in particular using well-rehearsed phrases to talk about themselves and exchange basics with others.
  2. Demonstrate the skills, language and attitudes required for further study of Arabic.


LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY
If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
